Rivian Wall Charger Price & Installation Cost

Rivian lists the Wall Charger (NACS) at $800 on its Gear Shop. That covers the hardware: a hardwired 48A / 11.5kW unit with a 24-foot cable, WiFi connectivity, and ENERGY STAR certification.

Because the Rivian Wall Charger is hardwired only, with no plug-in version offered, it must be installed on a dedicated 240V circuit by a licensed electrician. Your total installed price depends on three things:

  • Panel capacity: the full 48A output needs a 60A breaker. Older 100A panels often lack the headroom and may need an upgrade.
  • Wire run length: the distance from your electrical panel to where the charger mounts (garage, carport, or driveway) drives material and labor.
  • Permit & inspection: most St. Louis-area municipalities require an electrical permit for a new 240V circuit. We pull it and schedule the inspection for you.

The fastest way to get a real number for your home is a free quote. We'll confirm your panel capacity and run length and give you an exact installed price.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Rivian Wall Charger cost?

Rivian lists the Wall Charger (NACS) at $800 on its Gear Shop. That covers the equipment only. Because the unit is hardwired, it also requires professional installation on a dedicated 240V circuit by a licensed electrician. Your total installed cost depends on your panel capacity, the wire run from your panel to the charger location, and local permit fees. Request a free quote for an exact number for your home.

Can I use the Rivian Wall Charger with other EVs?

The current Rivian Wall Charger uses the NACS connector (the North American Charging Standard), which is native to 2026+ Rivian vehicles and a growing number of new EVs. EVs with a J1772 charge port need a NACS-to-J1772 adapter to use it. Rivian also sells J1772 charging equipment for earlier vehicles.

Is the Rivian Wall Charger hardwired or plug-in?

Hardwired only. Rivian does not offer a plug-in (NEMA 14-50) version of the Wall Charger, and Rivian's installation guidance calls for professional installation by a licensed electrician. That means every Rivian Wall Charger install is an electrician job. There's no DIY plug-in option.

Can any electrician install a Rivian wall charger?

Any licensed electrician can install it. You don't need a Rivian-certified installer. Rivian requires professional installation by a licensed electrician, and the work is a standard hardwired 240V dedicated circuit. First Choice Electric is licensed and installs Rivian Wall Chargers throughout St. Louis and St. Charles.

Does the Rivian charger need a permit?

In most St. Louis-area municipalities, adding a new dedicated 240V circuit for an EV charger requires an electrical permit and inspection. We handle the permit paperwork and inspection scheduling as part of every installation. It's included in your quote.

What's special about the Rivian charger vs. others?

The Rivian Wall Charger features premium build quality, a generous 24-foot cable, ENERGY STAR certification, and seamless integration with the Rivian mobile app. It's one of the better-looking chargers on the market.

Do I need a panel upgrade for the Rivian charger?

The Rivian Wall Charger requires a 60A circuit breaker to deliver its full 48A output. If you have a 100A panel, you'll likely need an upgrade to 200A. We assess this during your free site visit and include panel upgrades in our quotes when needed.
